Trinity County was founded on gold reportedly discovered here six years before
the Sutter's Mill Gold Rush. Gold dredging, panning and prospecting are common
sights.

The original settlers in the county were 50% Euro-Americans, and 50%
Chinese-Americans. Today, the Taoist Temple in Weaverville, preserves the
Chinese history, and is open to the public. The drive through Weaverville, the county seat, follows the original stage-coach route, and has many original brick, wooden, and rammed-earth buildings.

The Trinity Mountains include a 500,000 acre wilderness with 9,000 ft. snow-capped,
jagged peaks. Hike to waterfalls, crystal-clear lakes, teeming with fish, or hunt with a horse-packer.
